Introduction

I began Tremethick Cattery as a result of a lifelong dream to be owned by one of this magnificent breed . I am fortunate enough to be able to breed them and have them around me as family.  The description of Maine Coons from the CFA  Standard of the breed can be found here.

Here at Tremethick Cattery, we strive for healthy, large but affectionate cats and kittens with quality as the foremost objective. All of the kittens are “hand raised” underfoot with lots of socialization .

My cats are sold as pets and breeders with a contract. This specifies what a buyer can expect and outlines the responsibilities of the future partner of the cat. Please see “Contract “ for details.

My breeding males and females are screened for the disease HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) by ultrasound before breeding and every 2 years. They are all genetically tested for the gene mutation that has been proven to possibly be related to this disease. This test is performed by Dr Kathryn Meurs at Washington State University. Her continued work on the genetics of this problem should go a long way to understanding this disease.

They are also screened for hip dysplasia with the results from The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.

I show my cats competitively in both TICA and CFA. Most reputable breeders participate in cat shows as a way to have their cats evaluated by judges and other breeders and to gain knowledge from breeders that are more experienced. See the “Cat Shows” page for a listing of up coming shows. If you would like to come to the show it is a great way to meet breeders and see the wonderful variety of colors and “type” among the breed.

Prospective buyers are encouraged to visit the cattery to meet “the relatives” and to see the conditions of the cattery and the cats. I like to develop a relationship with the future owners of  “my babies”  before sending them to their future home.
